Make a Real Difference as a Respite Caregiver
Abbi Care is hiring caring, dependable people to support children and adults with special needs in their own homes. Flexible part-time shifts, paid training, and a team that has your back.
A Small Agency With a Big Heart
Abbi Care Inc. provides in-home, non-medical respite care so family caregivers can rest. We are a vendored provider with the Regional Center of Orange County (RCOC) and CalOptima Health, based in Laguna Hills and serving every city in Orange County.
In-Home Respite Care
Non-medical support delivered in the family's home: companionship, activities, daily routines, and safety.
RCOC & CalOptima Vendored
Families come to us through the Regional Center of Orange County and CalOptima Health, so hours are authorized and steady.
Laguna Hills Office
Our team works from 22982 La Cadena Dr, Suite 202 in Laguna Hills, and you are matched with families near where you live.
All of Orange County
From Anaheim to San Clemente and Huntington Beach to Yorba Linda, we serve families in every Orange County community.
Respite Caregiver
You give a family's primary caregiver a real break by stepping in to care for their loved one, a child or adult with a developmental disability or other special need. It is hands-on, person-centered work, and no two clients are alike.
You will:
- Engage your client in activities they enjoy: games, crafts, walks, music, homework help, or simply good company.
- Help with daily routines such as meals, snacks, hygiene, and transitions between activities.
- Keep your client safe and comfortable, following the family's care plan and any behavior supports.
- Communicate clearly with the family and the Abbi Care scheduling team, and document each visit.
- Show up on time, every time. Families plan their lives around your shift.
This is non-medical care. You will not administer medication or perform nursing tasks.
What a Shift Looks Like
Before you arrive
Your shift is scheduled in advance around your availability. You know the client, the address, and the care plan before you knock on the door.
Hand-off with the family
A quick check-in with the parent or caregiver: how the day has gone, anything to watch for, when they will be back.
The visit
Usually 3 to 6 hours. You keep your client engaged, safe, and comfortable while the family rests, runs errands, or spends time with other children.
Wrap-up
Share how the visit went, note anything the family should know, and log your hours. Then you are done until your next scheduled shift.
What You Need to Join
Experience with special needs is a plus, but patience and dependability matter most. We help you complete the screening steps.
-
18 years or older
With valid I-9 documents.
-
Background check
Federal and state background checks before your first shift. We walk you through it.
-
CPR certification
Required before you start. Not certified yet? Tell us on the application and we will help you get there.
-
Reliable transportation
You travel to client homes across Orange County, so a dependable way to get there on time is essential.
-
Patience and heart
Prior experience with developmental disabilities, child care, or caregiving is welcome but not required.
What You Get Working With Us
We are a small, family-run agency. You are a name to us, not a number, and we work hard to make your schedule work for your life.
Flexible scheduling
Tell us when you can work and we build around it. Great for students, parents, and anyone with a second job.
Paid onboarding & training
You are paid while you learn our care plans, documentation, and safety practices. Ongoing coaching is part of the job.
Clients close to home
We match you with families in or near your city so you spend your time caring, not commuting.
Paid sick leave
You accrue paid sick leave under California law from your first day of work.
A team that answers the phone
Our scheduling team is a call or text away when something comes up on a shift. You are never on your own.
Work that matters
Every shift gives a family a real break and gives your client a good day. Few jobs offer that.
